Spring forward! Irene’s Writing Marathon will push you into new territory. Through carefully selected prompts and timed writing laps, we’ll pave the way for new images and ideas to surface. This writing marathon is designed to force the “censor” to the sidelines, even off the page. At the core of this method is the truth that so many great writers have asserted: We have within us the power to bring our sleeping images to the light! You’ll be writing in a safe, relaxed environment, and encouraged, though not pressured, to read some of what you produce. You’ll leave the Marathon with fresh material, new connections, and some revelations for your writing practice.

Irene Blair Honeycutt is an award-winning teacher and poet. Her fourth poetry book, Beneath the Bamboo Sky (Main Street Rag, 2017), is sub-titled Poems and Pieces on Loss and Consolation. Irene’s kinship with trees began in her childhood in Florida where she built and retreated to her palm hut. She still meets with the woods and enjoys writing time in her mountain cabin. Her work has been published by journals, including Nimrod, Southern Poetry Review, The Southern Poetry Anthology: VII, Black Moon Magazine, Kakalak, Virginia Quarterly, and Sunspot Literary Journal. Irene founded Central Piedmont Community College’s Spring Literary Festival/Sensoria, which had a 29-year run. She mentors poets and is completing her fifth poetry manuscript.
